      MONK, Laura Shirlin (nee Maughan) -
      Born September 28th, 1947 – died August 28th, 2005 at home with family by her side after a lengthy battle with cancer at the age of 57. Predeceased by her mother Annie Maughan, father Thomas Maughan, brothers Lolly “Loral” Coumbs, Thomas Maughan, William Maughan, James Maughan, John Maughan and Charles Maughan. Survived by sister Anne Billings of Blackstock. Loving wife of 38 years to Leonard Monk. Cherished mother to three children Wanda MacCrandles (Tim), Colleen Monk, Brenton Monk (Colleen). Loving grandmother to eight grandchildren Michael Bailey (Kathy), Amy Bailey, Ryan Bailey, Zachary Monk, Doulton Monk, Logan (Monk) Collins, Dillon Davies, Jayd Monk and one great-granddaughter Sierra McLeod. She fought a long, hard battle against cancer, and is finally with her parents and free of pain. She will be forever loved and missed. Friends were received at OSHAWA FUNERAL SERVICE “Thornton Chapel”, 847 King Street West (905-721-1234) for visitation on Tuesday, August 30th from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. A Funeral Service was held on Wednesday, August 31st, 2005 at the ESSONVILLE LINE CHURCH in Essonville at 12:00 P.M. Interment at Essonville Line Cemetery. Donations may be made to Hearth Place or The Canadian Cancer Society.
