- He was Reeve of Horton Twp. He had been a blacksmith in Balderson and moved to Renfrew to start a foundry at the corner of Patrick Ave and Argyle St which later became a carriageworks. He was first Worthy Patriarch of the Renfrew Chapter of the Sons of Temperance and a member of the Mechanics Institute.
